You wanted something to cover it. That is what you were asking for, in January and again in March, and you have not said it in those words but that is what it was.
A word for the year. Something with enough in it to reach from where you are to whenever this resolves, so that you would not have to keep coming back.
You have watched other people seem to have one. Somebody at the start of a hard stretch says the word I have been given for this season is and then a sentence, and they carry it for months and it holds.
Nothing has arrived like that for you.
What has arrived, and you have discounted it repeatedly, is small. A line that helped on a Tuesday and did nothing on the Wednesday. A sentence in something you were reading that got you as far as the afternoon. Twice, a phrase turning up in your head at the right moment and then being gone by the evening.
None of that has counted, because none of it was the size you were asking for.
So the ledger, as you have been keeping it, says God has not spoken to you all year.
The ledger is wrong. But it is not wrong about the facts; it is wrong about the unit.
What this page will not do
I am not going to tell you a year-word does not exist. Some people are given something that carries a long stretch, and when it happens it is real, and I am not going to explain it away because it has not happened to you.
I am not going to tell you that you have been asking wrongly. Asking for something to cover a hard year is not greed. It is what a tired person asks for. That is Scripture's sentence and not mine, Lamentations 3:22-23, and it is the Holy Spirit and not this page who makes it true where you are.
And I am not going to give you a selection to try. This category refuses that. There will be one.
What I am going to do is change the unit you have been measuring in, because that is the whole of what has gone wrong.
You are not without a word this year. Scripture says the Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart, Psalm 34:18, and nearness is not delivered in annual installments, and the Holy Spirit has been speaking at a size you have been discounting since January.
Here it is
It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.Lamentations 3:22-23
That is yours, and it is not an accident that it is this one.
New every morning. That is the unit. Not new every year. Not issued in advance for a season, not stockpiled, not given to you in one piece so that you can stop asking.
Every morning.
And look where it sits. Lamentations is a book about a catastrophe. The chapter it is in opens with a man saying God has led him into darkness and broken his bones, and he means it, and nothing before verse twenty-two softens it. Then this, in the middle of the worst book in the Bible, is the sentence that survives.
He is not saying it is over. He is saying that mercies arrive at a rate of one morning at a time, and that this is why he is not consumed.
You are not being given less than other people. Scripture says they are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness, Lamentations 3:23, and the daily rate is described as the shape of the faithfulness rather than as a shortfall in it, and the Holy Spirit is the one who delivers at that rate to somebody in the middle of a year like this.
Why the unit matters
Here is what has actually been happening, and once you see it you will get back everything you have been discounting. Scripture stands under that in Lamentations 3:22-23, and the Holy Spirit does the part no sentence can do.
You have been keeping accounts in a currency God does not issue. It is written, in Lamentations 3:22-23, and the Holy Spirit is the one who takes what is written off a page and into a life.
Every small thing that came, you weighed against the twelve-month word you were holding out for, and it came up short, so you filed it as nothing. A line that got you to the afternoon is not a season-word, so it did not count. A phrase that turned up and left by evening did not count. Scripture settles that in Lamentations 3:22-23, and the Holy Spirit is the one who carries it rather than these words.
Add them up. There have been dozens. You could not list them now because you never recorded them, but you know, if you sit still, that the year has not been silent.
And there is a reason God works this way that is worth more than the annual version would have been. A word that covered twelve months would mean you did not need to come back for twelve months. Mercies that are new every morning mean you meet Him every morning.
That is not an inefficiency in the system. That is the system.
You are not being kept short. Scripture says give us this day our daily bread, Matthew 6:11, and the daily rate was built into the prayer by the one teaching it rather than being a concession to weakness, and the Holy Spirit is not withholding an annual supply He intended you to have.
What a Tuesday-sized word does
It gets you to Wednesday. That is the whole job and it is not a small one.
You have been treating that as failure. A verse that works for a day and then goes quiet has felt like something that did not take, like a fire that would not catch. I am not putting my own idea over you; Scripture says it in Lamentations 3:22-23, and the Holy Spirit is the one who makes it live.
It took perfectly. It did exactly what it was for.
And notice what a year-word would actually have been like in practice. You would have received it in January, and by March you would have been carrying it as a memory rather than as a gift, and by June you would have been trying to remember how it felt when it came.
Daily is not the lesser version. Daily is fresh.
You are not failing to hold on to things. Scripture says as thy days, so shall thy strength be, Deuteronomy 33:25, and the supply is described as matched to the day rather than issued in bulk, and the Holy Spirit is the one who brings what is needed at the size the morning needs it.
Nothing here shortens the hard stretch you are in. That is not my opinion. Scripture stands behind it in Lamentations 3:22-23, and the Holy Spirit brings it near.
What changes tomorrow morning is the unit.
Take Lamentations 3:22-23. Read it at the window before the day starts. Once. Then put it down and go and live the Tuesday.
Do not check whether it lasted. That is the old measurement returning in a new coat. It is not supposed to last; it is supposed to get you through today, and tomorrow there is another one.
And go back through the year in your head, not to make a list, just for five minutes. The line that helped on a Tuesday. The sentence that got you to the afternoon. The phrase that turned up twice.
Those were not nothing. They were the mercies, arriving at the stated rate, being discounted by somebody waiting for a delivery that was never how this works.
You have not been passed over this year, and the smallness was never a shortfall. Scripture says it is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, Lamentations 3:22, and the Holy Spirit has been arriving every single morning of a year you have been recording as silent.
Declare this over yourself
Say these out loud at the window, quietly. You are in Christ and Christ is in you, so the standing to speak was given to you and a hard year has not withdrawn it. Scripture carries every line here and the Holy Spirit brings them the distance. Nothing here sets God a date; He answers in His own way and the outcome is His, and however He answers, none of it is a verdict on you.
- Demand for a word that covers twelve months, you were never the shape of this and I stop waiting for you. The Word of God says His compassions are new every morning, and in the name of Jesus I stop discounting what has been arriving daily since January.
- Ledger that has recorded this whole year as silence, get out of this house. Scripture says as thy days, so shall thy strength be, Deuteronomy 33:25, and the Holy Spirit has never once issued in bulk what He said He would bring in the morning.
- Lord, the daily rate is the shape of Your faithfulness and never a shortfall in it, and You have been here every morning of a year I filed as empty. I am reading one verse at the window before the day, and I am going to go and live the Tuesday.
